Emotions are not Mutually Exclusive
Many of us
do not feel supported.
Yet
we rationalize
that we should be grateful
for whatever we have.
If such rationalization
leads to self judgment,
shame,
and isolation.
May we realize
that gratitude
is not mutually exclusive
with not feeling supported.
The Chinese character for human
are two strokes
in support of one another.
Human beings need
and deserve support,
no matter their circumstance.
Easy vs Hard
If what is easy
is common
and what is hard
is rare.
What is common
is folks telling other people
to work harder
because thats whay they did.
What is rare
is folks admitting the luck
that made their hard work gain traction.
What is rare
is folks admitting the depression
their gri
What is rare
is folks shining light on those who acceted them
for who they are
and inspired courage from within.
Deadline
What I learned in art
is that the work gets done
because there’s an exhibition.
Without an exhibition
the artist can work on their piece
until they’re perfect.
Except
compared to perfection
the work
is never be enough.
The role of an exhibition
is to force us to define
what is “good enough.”
Asking for Advice
Sometimes,
we need to ask for advice
on how to solve
our problems.
Before asking,
it may be worth getting clear on:
- What the current situation is,
- Where you’re trying to move to,
- What you believe are required
to make such a move, - What you’ve already done
to fulfill those requirements,
and having done them, - What you see
are the remaining problems.
Compassion
Compassion without empathy
can lead to negative impact
with positive intentions.
Empathy without Compassion
can lead to
Responsibility
To take responsibility
is not
to be at fault.
It is to choose
our response
and to own up
to the consequence
of our
choices.
One example response
may be the admission
of fault,
but it need not be limited
to that.
Past, Present, Future
May we understand
our past self
without acting as one.
May we act
as our present self
without .
May we feel inspired by our future self
without expecting our present
to be one already.
3 Types of Progress
There are at least
3 types
of progress
Forward movement.
Shift in direction.
and Greater clarity.
The first,
is the most obvious.
The second,
may require,
perhaps ironically,
setbacks,
but pays off in dividends
in the grand scheme of things.
The third,
may introduce,
perhaps ironically,
setbacks
or retreats,
because when it is foggy,
the only way to gain clarity
is to move forward,
even if we know
it is the wrong
direction.
Boundaries & Systems
In a system
boundaries
are temporary
and require constant
management.
We try to blame others
hoping that
the boundaries
will become permanent
but it will never happen
